Chelsea manager Antonio Conte insists that his influential player Eden Hazard must win more trophies with club and country to increase his chances of winning the Ballon D’Or, the Metro reports.
To many Blues fans shock, Hazard came just 19th in this year’s Ballon D’Or rankings despite having a succesful 2017.
But when speaking in his press conference earlier today, Conte revealed what the Belgian needs to do if he wants to recieve this award, as the Metro reports.
The Metro quotes Conte saying:
“I am repeating always the same concept. If you want to win the Ballon d’Or you have to win the Premier League, you have to win the Champions League, you have to win the World Cup, the European Cup.”
Ballon D’Or rankings don’t reflect on Hazard’s brilliance
The Ballon D’Or rankings are being taken less and less seriously year by year.
There’s no question that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are still the two best players on the planet, including this year.
However, I can’t get my head around players like Gianluigi Buffon being ranked fourth. The goalkeeper has shown his quality throughout his career. This isn’t a justification to say he’s had a better individual year than Hazard.
Perhaps, this goes back to Conte’s desire for the 26-year-old to win more team trophies. Buffon won the Serie A title and reached the final of the Champions League last season.
