Eden Hazard

Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness believes that Eden Hazard can be mentioned in the same bracket as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Eden Hazard Lionel Messi
Could Chelsea winger Eden Hazard be the successor to Lionel Messi’s throne?

Since recovering from his ankle injury and returning to full match-fitness, Hazard has been unstoppable. When on song, the Belgian can win games for Chelsea virtually single handedly – and that’s exactly what he did against Newcastle on Saturday.

Hazard scored the equalising goal in the first-half before sealing all three points with a ‘Panenka’ from the penalty spot in the second half. Newcastle’s back-line had no answer to Hazard, who tore them to shreds time and time again.

Following the game, Souness has used his platform as a pundit for Sky Sports to send his adulation to our Belgian genius. Souness claims that Hazard can be mentioned in the same sentence as two of the greatest players ever to play the game.

Sky Sports quote Souness, who says:

“When you think of the players who can take the mantle from the two top players at the moment – Messi and Ronaldo – Hazard comes into that category. He is that good.”

Consistency is the key…

Hazard has scored eight goals and provided six assists for Chelsea so far this season, directly contributing to a goal every 83 minutes.

He will have to continue being that prolific if he wants to have any chance of winning the Ballon D’Or at some point in the not so distant future.

Ballon D'or
Chelsea winger Eden Hazard will be a Ballon D’Or candidate if he continues to play as well as he has recently.
