Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has revealed his desire to meet his former side in the EFL Cup after Derby County thrashed Hull City 4-0.
It’s bizarre enough for Chelsea fans seeing Lampard in the dugout. We’re used to him making late runs into the box and finding the back of the net, not barking orders from the touch line.
Can you imagine the prospect of him doing it at Stamford Bridge? The 40,000 in attendance would struggle figuring out who to cheer on. It’d be quite the spectacle, and Lamps is hoping that it becomes reality.
Speaking after Derby’s EFL Cup second round win, during which our Mason Mount scored AGAIN, Lampard is quoted by the Independent saying:
“The big boys are coming in which will be a great test for us. It’s a competition we want to do well in.”
And on the possibility of facing Chelsea, he said…
“It’s an obvious question for me, it would be nice. For the romantic link Chelsea would be a good one.”
Like Lampard, we’re also keeping our fingers crossed that we’re drawn with the EFL Championship side. We’d get our reunion with our all-time top goal scorer, as well as a realistic route into the next round.
The third round draw is tonight. Let’s see who we get…
