Frank Lampard has claimed that he will NOT celebrate if his Derby County side defeat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tonight.
Lampard is arguably the greatest player ever to pull on a Chelsea shirt. He stands outright as our all-time top goalscorer, which is remarkable considering he played as a midfielder.
The former England international has called time on his playing career and is now leading Derby towards a promotion push in the EFL Championship.
Derby also defeated Manchester United at Old Trafford in the previous round of the Carabao Cup, thus setting up an emotional reunion with former side Chelsea.
It will be a dream return for Lamps as he steps out into the technical area at the Bridge tonight. He will no doubt get plenty of love and respect from the fans, and he has assured us that it will be reciprocated.
Lampard is quoted by the Metro revealing that he will not celebrate even if Derby pull off an against the odds win in SW6 tonight:
“It will be easy to do that because I respect the club. When I scored against them [for Manchester City in 2014], I didn’t celebrate and I wouldn’t have done in a million years.”
“I respect Chelsea, but I don’t think anyone expects me to sit here and say, ‘I don’t want to beat Chelsea.'”
Good to hear, Lamps!
