Maurizio Sarri has hailed Manchester City’s midfield as the best in Europe ahead of Chelsea’s clash with them this afternoon.
Pep Guardiola’s midfield has been the foundation of his success whether he’s been. Though he places great value on defenders who are capable with the ball at their feet, his midfield has provided the link between them and his forward line. At City it’s no different.
Oftentimes the cliche is that a team’s midfield distributor is referred to as a ‘Rolls-Royce’, a la our very own Jorginho. City have two or three of them. That’s why it’s so hard to get the ball off them, even if you’re a possession-dominant side like ourselves.
Maurizio Sarri appears to be acceptant that Chelsea are not going to get the share of the ball that we often do. City will be the ones dominating possession, not only because they’re the home side, but because the quality they have in the middle of the park is something else.
Sarri has been waxing lyrical about City’s midfield ahead of the big game later today. In quotes carried by the Daily Mail, our manager revealed his belief that there is no better midfield on the planet than the one that Guardiola has at his disposal:
“You know very well that the midfield of Manchester City is one of the best in the world. Not only Fernandinho but also Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and David Silva. Technically, they are the best midfield in Europe.”
Ours isn’t half bad either. We have the quality to get a result at the Etihad, even if it will help Liverpool in their pursuit of winning the title. Make sure you’re following our full match coverage on Twitter @TalkChelsea. It’s gonna’ be a good one!
