Maurizio Sarri has been in touch with Marina Granovskaia, and he hasn’t been given the impression that his job is hanging by a thread.
We all know how the media love a Chelsea crisis – it sells papers. We have an owner who’s lost his visa, an incoming transfer ban following a lengthy investigation by FIFA and a manager who is struggling to produce adequate results. You can forgive the mainstream press for rubbing it in our faces.
They’ve painted a picture of Sarri being a dead man walking at Stamford Bridge, which may well be the case. Roman Abramovich is notoriously unforgiving and it is at this point unclear if we will be able to get back into the Champions League. However, his relationship with Marina could be his saving grace.
Marina is the most influential figure at Chelsea at this current time, and by the sound of things, Sarri is in frequent contact with her – unlike Antonio Conte towards the end. Speaking to the media ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Tottenham this evening, Sarri is quoted by Goal saying:
“I spoke with Marina this week, before the final, just for good luck. I spoke to Marina after the match about the Kepa situation. My relationship with the club is like before.”
Ultimately the results will determine whether Sarri’s time as Chelsea manager is cut short. Tonight’s game may well prove decisive. Will we build on our excellent performance against Manchester City, or will it be more stale and boring, ineffective, rubbish? We will have to wait and see.
