Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has spoken of what a brilliant striker Chelsea have signed in the shape of Gonzalo Higuain.
Higuain may well only be on-loan at Chelsea, but regardless of whether he’s here for six-months, 18-months, or even longer, we’ll enjoy it while it lasts. Scarcely do we have strikers at this club capable of scoring goals. Right now we have one of the best in the business.
One man who has experienced Higuain’s quality first-hand is City boss Guardiola, who had countless tussles with the Argentine during their respective stints at Real Madrid and Barcelona. Higuain appears to have left a lasting impression on the Barca treble-winner.
Guardiola knows a top striker when he sees one. We’re talking about a man who has managed Thierry Henry, David Villa, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robert Lewandowski, Sergio Aguero and more. By the sound of these recent comments, he’d love to have had Higuain at some point in his managerial career.
Speaking ahead of Man City’s clash with Chelsea this afternoon, Guardiola is quoted by the Guardian saying:
“Higuaín is a striker of exceptional quality, the type of guy who doesn’t need too much to score a goal.”
Guardiola will be hoping that Higuain’s ‘exceptional quality’ doesn’t come to the fore at the Etihad at 4pm this afternoon. City need a win in order to reaffirm their title credentials, but we have ambitions of our own in terms of securing Champions League qualification. It’s sure to be a cracker.
