A chance for Abraham, first start for Pulisic – Predicted XI vs Barcelona

Chelsea face Barcelona on Tuesday morning in at 11.30am kick off UK time, live on the Chelsea website and the 5th Stand App.

Frank Lampard will be hoping to put in a better performance and gain a better result than the last match against Kawasaki Frontale, that ended in a 1-0 defeat.

Having used the 4-2-3-1 formation throughout the majority of the last match, and Olivier Giroud hinting that this formation is the one being worked on in training, I believe this is what we will see again tomorrow.

According to the Chelsea website, N’Golo Kante has returned to the UK in order to undergo more rehabilitation after a knee injury he picked up last season, so he will not be featuring.

Tammy Abraham and Kepa Arrizabalaga are both in line for a start having both recovered from the minor illness that kept them out of the last match.

With that in mind, I believe after Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud both had 45 minutes each last match, I feel that Lampard will now want to see what Abraham can offer as the lone striker and he will start the match.

Predicted starting Xl vs Barcelona (4-2-3-1).

Kepa, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Luiz, Emerson. Kovacic, Jorginho. Mount, Barkley, Pulisic. Abraham.

I think like the last match, Lampard might trial Mount on the left again as another look at that option. Barkley played very well in the ten role in the last match, so he’s probably earned a start there to take another look at him.

We will obviously see many switches in the second half with Davide Zappacosta, Marcos Alonso, Andreas Christensen, Fikayo Tomori (possibly), Danny Drinkwater, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Kenedy, Pedro, Michy Batshuayi/Olivier Giroud all expecting to come on.
