Mason Mount has been called up for England before, but he didn’t get capped. This time around, he will be expecting that to change, and he is more than ready.

He’s come flying into the Chelsea setup this season, his first in the Premier League. He’s brushed aside criticism from some of his own supposed fans, and doubt from many others, to become one of the first players on Frank Lampard’s team sheet.

He’s played in midfield, and on both wings, but has never looked out of place.

In fact, he’s been one of Chelsea’s biggest offensive threats, and looks like scoring every time he gets near the goal. I feel confident that he will too, that’s a great feeling.

When was the last time you felt confident with a Chelsea player finishing a half chance other than Eden Hazard? I can’t remember personally. I’ve spent the last year or so being totally shocked if anyone else found themselves in a scoring position, and buried it.

Mount is technically very good, and has actually bought a lot more to the wide positions. His intensity, his movement, his pace, and his pressing, has caused lots of problems to the opposition.

I see people moan about him drifting out of games, as if the great Hazard didn’t do that from time to time. Or as if Mount is the super confident world class player already at the age of 20. It’s mad unrealistic expectations and it’s just weird.

Mount deserves this England call up, and he will only get better and improve the rest of his game too.
