This is a favourable draw for certain young and fringe players, who will certainly be given some minutes in this fixture.
So who can we expect to see from the academy?
The 18-year old Scottish Under-21 international has already been involved in first team activities and played twice in pre-season. He’s rated highly by Frank Lampard, and I’m pretty sure he will get the nod to start this match.
A superb talent who has the rarity of uniting Chelsea fans on their agreement of his talent.
This 17-year old has it all, pace, power, skill, eye for goal, and a real maturity. Anjorin is compared to Ruben Loftus-Cheek a lot, but he is actually further developed than Ruben was at his age, so has a bag full of potential.
He could make the bench in this game, and feature at some point.
Another superb talent, Guehi is a centre back who oozes confidence and maturity. He’s good on the ball, strong in the tackle, and possess all the attributes of a modern day defender.
He will certainly be in for a shout on the bench at the very least.
Others that maybe considered..
Juan Castillo, Ian Maatsen and George Mceachran.
Maatsen and Castillo are both quality left sided players and might have a chance for the bench. Mceachran could be in for some minutes as well, depending on how much of a rest Lampard will give his regular midfielders.
Lampard will obviously be gunning for silverware in his first season at Chelsea, so he certainly wont be getting complacent in this competition.
I expect to see a mix of regulars, fringe, and backed up by some academy talents.
