Over the years, the Stamford Bridge faithful have grown used to seeing a host of players who are able to pop up with a goal from out of nowhere. The blues have always been gifted with players like Frank Lampard, Michael Essien, Michael Ballack and Oscar just to name a few, who have that ability to pick out a goal from long range, or burst into the box and finish off a flowing move.
Over the last few seasons however, these types have seemed like a dying breed at the club. There is excitement growing again that Chelsea may now be able to start adding more goals from midfield and giving them an extra element of attack once again.
With players like Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek both coming up with some vital goals last season and are expected to carry on that form again this year, the Blues also now have Mason Mount and Billy Gilmour in the ranks. The latter might not be breaking into the squad quite yet, but he is certainly knocking hard on the door already and will bring the added element of having an eye for goal.
Mount played at Derby under Frank Lampard last season and has a clear goal threat to his game. Its vital to have players in the squad other than the main attackers, who have that goal threat. It’s something that Chelsea have been missing and have heavily relied on the departed Eden Hazard for goals.
But now with the master goal scoring midfielder leading the team, who better to help coach the fine art of arriving in the box and scoring a vital goal to win a match, or start a heroic come back!
