Chelsea could be without as many as six players when they head to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on the opening day of the Premier League season.
This information comes from Football London, who believe that all of Antonio Rudiger, N’Golo Kante, Willian, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James could be forced to watch the fixture from the sidelines.
Naturally, this will come as a concern for Chelsea fans, with Frank Lampard needing all the help he can get to triumph over the Red Devils in their own back yard in his first competitive game in charge of the Blues.
No cause for concern
While we understand the anxiousness when such a great deal of key players could miss out on the game, it’s important to remember that we’ll actually be better off without their involvement at this point in time.
The players that Lampard has fit and available have been able to train with him in the build up to the season and as a result have a better understanding of his system and ideas than those currently on the injury table.
Not only that, but there’s no benefit to fielding half-fit players in a fixture which is likely to be very physically demanding against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s intense press. We’d be overrun, particularly in the midfield.
We ought to have faith in the players who have trained with Lampard since day one, and those who have joined up along the way, and believe that they will be able to get the job done on the Old Trafford turf.
