The Super Cup final tonight is only the second game of Frank Lampard’s managerial reign, but already there is some serious weight on it.

Having lost his debut 4-0 to Manchester United at the weekend, Lampard is already under some form of pressure, to at least provide an improved performance against the reigning Champions of Europe tonight. But it won’t be easy.

Not only are the team we’re taking on the current holders of the European Cup, and unquestionably among the top 2 or 3 teams in Europe right now, they also have several other advantages going into this game.

They played on Friday night for one thing, while we were still going on Sunday evening. That’s a whole lot more rest for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Lampard will also have some serious selection issues too. Does he rotate in some of the guys who missed out on Sunday? Does he prioritise this weekend’s game against Leicester?

All will be revealed later tonight, but before kick-off even gets close, we should all acknowledge how much of a serious test this will be. All we can ask for is an improvement on Sunday’s showing.
