Frank Lampard has everything against him in his first season at Chelsea. A squad that often under performed and faded under pressure last season. An owner who demands instant success, and a transfer ban meaning he cannot sign any players for the next two windows.

So why do I think he can succeed? Because as a player, he often had everything against him, but still succeeded – as a coach, he will keep that same mentality, determination and desire.

Lampard is a born winner, and has a winning mentality. Lampard will firmly believe that he can be successful this season, and so do I.

If Lampard didn’t think he could do a good job at Chelsea right now, he would not have took the job.

Many of the issues last season were not only performance related, but the players mentalities were also under question.

That’s one thing that no transfer ban can solve. That takes man management and motivational skills. For that, there is simply nobody better to motivate Chelsea players to go out there and give it all for the shirt.

Lampard could motivate a fish to walk on a pavement, that’s how good a man manager he is. I have no concerns about mentalities. One problem down.

The next, players playing to their strengths and adaptability. I’m not here to slander Maurizio Sarri, but his lack of adaptation at times last season when things weren’t working, was just odd.

Lampard will do that, if a player is struggling in a certain role, he will change that before it’s too late. If we need a last minute goal, he will throw an extra striker on and overload the box. The same if we need to see out a result, he will tighten it up.

Next, he has players who can be better than any new signings, players who know what it means to ‘be Chelsea’. Reece James, Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Kurt Zouma, just to name a few. The squad is large, and has improved, there’s no doubt about that.

Finally, Lampard has a fantastic team of intelligent tactical coaches with brilliant football know-how surrounding him. I believe collectively their biggest strength is tactics. On their day, they can out fox even the best in the game.

Don’t get me wrong, it will be tough, but I genuinely think they will surprise many.

League finish prediction – 3rd.

Trophies – League Cup winners.

Champions League – Last 16.

And to me, this will be a very successful for season one, and kick on the next season.

This looks like a pragmatic forecast. I would definitely expect Chelsea to be at the top four and league cup is not out of reach. Champions league Quarter final….but it will depend on how far they progress in other competitions especially the FA Cup
