Chelsea are not alone in their pursuit of Juventus left-back Alex Sandro, according to the Mirror.

The report claims that Premier League counterparts Manchester United are also interested in securing the Brazilian’s services. It is believed that Juventus value Sandro in the region of £53M.

Who is Alex Sandro?

Sandro made a name for himself during his time in his native Brazil. FC Porto’s success over the years has been largely down to their scouting network in South America, and it identified Sandro as a worthy addition to the squad.

After three successful seasons at the Estádio do Dragão, Sandro had established himself among the best left-backs on the planet. Serie A heavyweights Juventus had taken notice and made their move to seal his signature.

Sandro has continued to fill his trophy cabinet to the brim during his time in Turin. At the time of writing, only Marcelo can be considered ahead of the 26-year-old in terms of left-backs. Chelsea and Manchester United’s reported interest in signing him is no surprise.

Where best would he fit?

It’s Manchester United who have the more dire need for a new left-back. Jose Mourinho does not appear to see Luke Shaw as the long-term solution in that position that many thought he was destined to be.

Antonio Conte has Marcos Alonso at his disposal. The Spaniard is lethal going forward, but his issues defensively are hard to overlook. Sandro would represent a direct upgrade on Alonso – but for a reported £53M, is it worth it? That’s for Conte to decide.
