Chelsea and Villarreal are reportedly set to go head-to-head in the race to sign Napoli centre-back Raul Albiol.
That’s according to CalcioNapoli24, who have really cashed-in on the continuous speculation linking Maurizio Sarri, and a host of Napoli players, with a move to Chelsea this summer.
The Italian publication have been providing almost hourly updates on the situation, and they’ve now shared some information about Albiol’s proposed move to Stamford Bridge.
It’s claimed that the Spaniard can leave the Stadio San Paolo this summer if his €6M release clause is yet. Both Chelsea and Villarreal have expressed their willingness to pay that figure.
Albiol is thought to have a very close relationship with incoming Chelsea manager Sarri, to a reunion with the 59-year-old in West London may well be on the cards.
At 32-years-old, Albiol would only be offered a one-year contract by Chelsea. He has proven himself able to still compete at the top level. He ought to spend at least a year with the Blues and then reevaluate his future.
