If you thought Chelsea’s summer business might be all but finished with the arrival of Morgan Rogers in attack and Maxence Lacroix at the back, you were wrong.
The Blues still want another midfielder, and the man whose name keeps coming up is Alex Scott. The Bournemouth dynamo has already been the subject of some exploratory talks earlier in the summer, and now it seems things could heat up again.
Our writer Simon Phillips says that Chelsea have “gone back to Bournemouth” to continue talks for Scott, and the Cherries haven’t “closed the door” on the move.
Chelsea can enter Scott race again – but only with major sales
Chelsea were quoted £90m for the midfielder, and that looks an impossibility now that they’ve spent £117m on Rogers. But if we make some major sales in the next few weeks, it could become feasible again.
As it stands, the rumours about Enzo Fernandez have died away totally, and it’s hard to see where space opens up for Scott on the budget without it. Phillips says that both Man City and Arsenal retain an interest in the Argentine, whose price “might drop towards the end of the window.”
There is the room for plenty more drama to come this summer…
