Chelsea are confident that they will be able to negotiate down the initial fee agreed with Juventus over Gonzalo Higuain, according to ESPN.
Gonzalo Higuain is a Chelsea player, that still sounds weird, even after he scored two brilliant goals on his home Premier League debut. We have one of the greatest strikers of his generation starting upfront for us. It’s not all bad news for us.
The question on everyone’s mind, which will only be asked more as Higuain continues to perform and bang in the goals, is just how long will this relationship last. Will he return to Juventus when his loan expires in a few months time – or could we sign him permanently?
Of course, it’s early days, but it’s something we want to be proactive about. By the sound of things, the club are, with Marina Granovskaia already getting to work in hope of haggling Juventus down over the potential transfer fee this coming summer.
ESPN report that there is a €36M buy option in the deal which took Higuain to Chelsea, but Marina is confident we can sign him for even less. Chelsea believe that Juventus will need to raise cash, notably to pay Cristiano Ronaldo’s wages.
Whether the Serie A champions will budge remains to be seen. After all, there’d be no shortage of interest in signing Higuain from elsewhere, especially for €36M. We’re playing a dangerous game. Let’s wait and see if it pays off.
