Chelsea have reportedly lined up Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio as a replacement for Eden Hazard, should the Belgian opt to move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

With every day that passes without Hazard signing an extension, it becomes increasingly likely that the next contract he signs will be with Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old spoke frankly about his future ahead of Belgium’s World Cup opener against Panama, inviting interest from Real Madrid and challenging Chelsea’s board to show some ambition in the transfer market.

What we should be doing is attempting to prise Asensio away from Los Blancos in hope of pairing him with Hazard. Instead, it looks as though here’s merely on the list of potential replacements for our star man.

According to Diario Gol, Asensio has been lined-up as Hazard’s successor. He proved his worth as part of Zinedine Zidane’s squad last term, but you couldn’t blame him for craving a more integral role.

It seems unlikely that Julen Lopetegui will allow Isco to depart. If Hazard arrives in Madrid, Asensio’s route to the starting XI could become even more treacherous. A move to Chelsea could be exactly what he needs to fully launch his career.
