Thibaut Courtois has appeared to confirm that he will be returning to Chelsea for pre-season training.

Courtois’ long-term future as a Chelsea player is thought to be in major doubt. The Belgian has just one-year remaining on his contract with the Blues, with Real Madrid thought to be extremely keen on securing his services.

Reports have claimed that Chelsea have already lined up AS Roma goalkeeper and Liverpool target Alisson Becker as a potential replacement for Courtois, with the Blues prepared a mammoth €70M bid.

Those results may well be premature. It’s unlikely we’ll look to recruit another goalkeeper until Courtois’ departure is confirmed. Judging by these recent comments from the 26-year-old, his exit is far from certain.

While discussing his World Cup campaign, Courtois says that he wants to return to London in July full of confidence following success in the competition with his country.

He’s quoted by the Express saying:

“I don’t want to go back to England in July with a losing feeling. I want to win. I think everyone feels that way.”

There you have it. Courtois is coming back to London after all – but for how long?
