Chelsea skipper Gary Cahill has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for both Aston Villa and Watford.
Cahill is one of the most influential players Chelsea have had since the turn of the decade. What he has achieved at Stamford Bridge will be remembered long after his departure, but it’s time for him to finally move on.
Cahill is not the type of defender that Maurizio Sarri likes to field in his back-line. He also provides an obstruction for Ethan Ampadu and Andreas Christensen, who are both looking to get their chance.
According to French outlet La Gazette des Transferts, Premier League outfit Watford and former side Aston Villa are both prepared to offer Cahill an escape route.
Chelsea ought to thank Cahill for his exemplary service by allowing him to leave the club on the cheap, as we did with Petr Cech to help him secure a move to Arsenal.
