Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois reportedly wants to leave Stamford Bridge this summer or next.
This is the news that we all feared, yet many expected. Courtois has stalled over committing his future to Chelsea. Whether it be to issues relating to his family, or for purely footballing reasons, he hasn’t conducted himself like a player who wants to be here next season.
Real Madrid would be the obvious prediction in terms of future destinations, but recent reports have suggested that Los Blancos are closing in on the signing of AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson.
Signing Alisson would eradicate Real’s need for a new goalkeeper. Courtois is at risk of being left behind in West London, but that doesn’t appear to be stopping him pushing for the exit door.
According to the well-informed Duncan Castles, Courtois has told Chelsea that he will not be signing a new contract and wants to leave. It’s claimed that he’s even prepared to wait until next summer to secure a move away from SW6.
It’s a long summer and there’s still plenty of time for Courtois to change his mind. If Eden Hazard signs a new contract, Courtois may follow suit.
Transfermarkt calculate that Courtois’ market value is around £54M. We can’t afford to let that sort of player to walk out the door on a free.
