Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has suffered a setback in his pursuit to bolster the Blues defence as Portugal wing-back Joao Cancelo has joined Inter Milan on a season-long loan, reports the Express.
As per the Express, Chelsea’s Italian manager is desperate to bring in defensive reinforcements before the end of the summer transfer window, with Joao Cancelo being high on Conte’s list of targets.
However, after agreeing to join Inter Milan on a season-long loan, the Blues coach will have to reassess his options as the transfer market enters its final week.
The Express report that the London club had been scouting Cancelo while playing at the European U21 Championships this summer, as the club prepared to bring in a host of new defenders.
However, Chelsea’s scouting missions look to have been in vain as the 23-year-old has opted for a move to Italy, forcing Antonio Conte back to the drawing board.
