Chelsea have set a deadline of Friday afternoon for any incoming bids for Enzo Fernandez. They don’t want speculation about his future to distract from the team’s preparations for the new season. Man City are the team who are still interested, and they now know what they’ve got to do.

Right now, it sounds very unlikely that any bid comes in. The deadline is more a mechanism to show the player that Chelsea were open to selling him, and that it’s City’s fault that he’s not making the move.

If he were to go, Chelsea have replacements lined up. A piece from TeamTalk claims that Adam Wharton and Alex Scott are the names at the top of their list to replace the Argentine with.

Both would be expensive, but affordable if Chelsea get the £120m they’re asking for for Enzo. Martin Zubimendi of Arsenal is also mentioned as a player that Xabi Alonso likes.

Right now, however, the most likely outcome is that no bid comes in for Enzo at all, and Chelsea simply move on and reintegrate the wantaway midfielder.

In other news…

David Ornstein’s piece about the Chelsea deadline set on Enzo Fernandez makes it clear that City have just 24 hours left to make a bid for the midfielder.

Ornstein’s specific claims backed up what we had already heard from Fabrizio Romano, who said that a decision was coming by the “end of the week.”
