An exclusive report published by the Express has claimed that Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar would favour a move to London, if he were to move to England.
That ‘if’ is the part of the information that’s worth underlining – because it’s a huge IF.
Neymar signed for PSG last summer in a world-record deal in an attempt to break free of Lionel Messi’s shadow and reaffirm his Ballon D’Or credentials.
There would be no reason to depart the Parc des Princes so soon into his time there, having not achieved what many are expecting him to deliver – the Champions League.
Despite that, the Express are discussing the possibility of Neymar exchanging Ligue 1 for the Premier League.
The report cites an ‘insider’ who claims that Neymar is obsessed with London, meaning he’d favour a move to Chelsea or Arsenal other the Manchester clubs.
The issue, from a Chelsea perspective, is that we cannot afford to prise him away from PSG, nor can we afford to pay his wages. This transfer is completely implausible.
Neymar may well be a big fan of our capital city, but the nearest he’s getting to Stamford Bridge is if he jumps on a District Line train to Wimbledon and gets off at Fulham Broadway.
