Chelsea are seriously considering making a move to sign Denmark hero Kasper Schmeichel if Thibaut Courtois leaves this summer, according to journalist Duncan Castles.
Schmeichel has been a cornerstone in the Leicester City side which has established themselves as a competitive Premier League side in recent seasons. He also, as we’re sure you’ll remember, picked up a winners’ medal back in 2016.
Son of Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel, Kasper proved that goalkeeping ability is indeed hereditary with his heroic performances for the Danish national team at this summer’s World Cup. He saved three penalties against Croatia, but that wasn’t enough to prevent his country being eliminated.
Chelsea look to have been impressed by his performances in Russia. As the Daily Star report, Duncan Castles has claimed that Schmeichel is being considered as a potential replacement for Courtois, who is being targeted by Real Madrid.
Castles believes that Leicester City could be tempted to part ways with the 31-year-old if they receive a bid in the region of £20M. Chelsea ought to beware, it’s historically naive to buy-into the hype around players following impressive World Cup campaigns.
