Sky Sports transfer expert Dharmesh Sheth believes that Chelsea are desperately searching for a striker to nail down the starting role in attack for years to come.
Chelsea need a new striker, this isn’t news. As if it wasn’t clear to see prior to yesterday’s defeat, we went to the Emirates, had 62% of the ball and failed to register a single shot on target throughout the 90 minutes. That is, quite frankly, dreadful.
Gonzalo Higuain appears to be on his way. We’re all hoping that he will sign along the dotted line in time to feature against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg at Stamford Bridge on Thursday. There’s no two ways about it, we need him.
With Higuain being 31-years-old, and initially signed on-loan, our search for a centre-forward can’t stop there. We need to sign a player capable of actually producing what we thought Alvaro Morata could. Bags of goals over an extending period of time.
We’re hoping that Sheth has got his information right, as he believes that those behind the scenes at the club are tirelessly searching the market in hope of plugging the void at the spearhead of our attack – once and for all. He’s quoted by the Express saying:
“You can be sure that Chelsea are scouring the market right now for a long-term solution for their striker issues. Perhaps not this month but definitely for the summer, that’s for sure.”
The only question is – who? Mauro Icardi is the one that we would all want, but is signing him realistically achievable? You don’t achieve anything unless you try, and we aren’t going to close the gap between ourselves and our rivals without signing world-class players.
Come on Marina, get it done!
