Manchester United have reportedly joined the race to sign Chelsea target Kalidou Koulibaly.

Koulibaly has been continually linked with a move to Chelsea in the past few years. First he was the perfect ball-playing centre-back to slot into Antonio Conte’s back-three, now he’s a priority target of incoming manager Maurizio Sarri. Either way, he’s still a Napoli player.

The Senegalese international remaining in Naples allows other clubs to make a move to sign him. Despite reports to the contrary, Chelsea are not on the verge of signing him, he didn’t join last summer, and yes, he may be playing for Manchester United next season.

According to the Manchester Evening Standard, Koulibaly is on an eight-man shortlist of defenders that Jose Mourinho will consider signing this summer. He’s among the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Raphael Varane and Jerome Boateng on the list – it’s rather star-studded.

Chelsea ought to act fast in making a move to sign Koulibaly, or face the reality of seeing him play for a direct rival come the start of next season.
