- Talks underway for Chelsea to sign Kovacic permanently.
- Tottenham also interested in signing Kovacic next summer.
- Should we sign him permanently? Let us know @TakChelsea.
Negotiations are already underway between Real Madrid and Chelsea for the permanent transfer of Mateo Kovacic, according to Spanish publication AS.
Kovacic has divided opinion among Chelsea fans since joining on loan over the summer. Some appreciate the technically gifted and suave midfielder he is, others are unconvinced about his contributions in terms of goals and assists.
Whichever side of the fence you sit on, we can all be in agreement that it would do us no harm keeping the Croatian around permanently. Even if he is not as direct and productive as Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, he’s certainly more polished.
For those Kovacic lovers out there, we’ve got some good news for you. AS believe that the chances of the Croat returning to Real Madrid are slim. Instead, he’ll likely be shipped off permanently next summer.
The report claims that, while Tottenham are also interested in signing him, Kovacic likes the idea of sticking around at Stamford Bridge. That ought to give us the edge if it becomes a race to secure his signature.
AS report that Real Madrid will demand a fee in excess of €35M in exchange fro Kovacic. How high Chelsea would be prepared to go remains to be seen.
