Fabrizio Romano has today given his legendary “here we go” treatment to the Jordan Henderson to Chelsea deal.
The former Liverpool captain has mutually agreed with Brentford to terminate his contract, leaving him a free agent to sign up with Chelsea. He’s been handed a two year deal, which Romano says he will sign “this week.”
News of Chelsea’s interest in the England squad player only emerged on Monday, and it’s not taken long for the move to happen. It’s a real stunner, and follows hot on the heels of a similar move for Danny Welbeck from Brighton.
Chelsea fans’ mixed reactions to Henderson arrival
Chelsea fans aren’t quite sure what to make of this move. On the one hand they’ve all been asking for more experience and leadership in their squad. On the other hand, picking up a 36 year old who Brentford have just let walk away for free is hardly exciting.
If he can help improve a questionable dressing room, it will be a great move. However if he ends up playing 20 games for us in a season where there aren’t many minutes to go around, we will have some serious questions.
In other news…
The far more important deal is the one to sign Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace, and that too is a done deal according to Romano. He says that the whole thing is complete, and just awaiting announcement from both sides.
Napoli are keen on Benoit Badiashile – it’s just a relief that someone is, after a long period where there were no rumours around the Frenchman at all.
