Twitter went absolutely mental for Chelsea target Aleksandr Golovin following his superb performance against Spain at the World Cup.
Golovin played 120 minutes against La Roja. He covered 16km in the game, which is more than any player has managed in the tournament so far.
There can’t have been a lot of life left in his legs when the penalty shootout came around. He didn’t shy away from taking responsibility, though, firing low and hard past Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.
Goal reported last week that Chelsea were close to striking a deal to sign Golovin from CSKA Moscow. We’re thought to have leapfrogged Juventus in the race to sign the Russian.
Though we have the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount coming through, Golovin is a once in a generation player for a country like Russian. Considering we’re owned by a Russian, our pursuit of the 22-year-old come as no surprise.
His stock is on the rise, and football fans on Twitter absolutely adored his performance against Spain on Sunday afternoon. Have a look at how they reacted.

Golovin’s tracking back is unreal, reminds me of Kante, he’s constantly running and working hard, looks superb.

If we get Golovin for the reported £27m, I can forgive Marina for £40m Bakayoko and £32m Drinkwater.

Golovin looked really good today. If he can perform like that with a bunch of low tier players imagine how good he would be next to Kante

Can we talk about how good Golovin was that game? Positioned himself brilliantly off the ball, was economic with his passing, carried Russia forward on his own and, most of all, never stopped tracking back (as late as the 118th minute). Creativity meets industry.

Golovin who is built half the size of Bakayoko has more composure and stamina than him so far having played over 113 minutes against a superior side like Spain with so much possession.
