Branislav Ivanovic may no longer be a Chelsea player, but he’ll always have a place in our hearts.

Ivanovic, often dubbed ‘two-goal Branislav Ivanovic’ for the brace he bagged against Liverpool in the Champions League back in 2009, is one of the greatest defenders in our history.

Not only was he imperious on the back-foot, but he was also a threat going forward. We fondly remember important goals against Napoli, Benfica and Manchester City.

Though used predominantly as a right-back during his time at Stamford Bridge, he always found a way to make an impact in attack, especially on set-pieces.

He’s one of the best Serbian footballers ever to have played the game. Dejan Stankovic and Nemanja Vidic are two more world-class Serbs from the past decade, but Ivanovic is set to achieve a feat that neither of them managed.

With Ivanovic being named in the starting lineup for Serbia against Costa Rice, the Chelsea legend reached 104 international appearances. That makes him his country’s all-time leading appearance maker, surpassing Stankovic.

Congratulations, Branislav!
