Marco van Ginkel is far too good to be playing in the Eredivisie, this we’ve known for some time now.
van Ginkel was given an opportunity to impress in the Premier League during his loan stint with Stoke City, but struggled with form and fitness during his time at the bet365 Stadium.
The Dutchman was subsequently shipped off back to his home country, where astonishingly he has found the back of the net 29 times in 54 league appearances, with 14 of those coming this season. From midfield!
Comparisons to Frank Lampard have inevitably been made, but van Ginkel is writing his own name in the history books, he appears to have no interest in lurking in the shadows of his predecessors.

His superb performances and productivity from midfield were crucial in the Dutch giants winning their first league title since 2016.
van Ginkel has been on our books since the summer of 2013. When you consider that sub-par summer signings Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater have both played a part this term, van Ginkel may be quietly hoping for an opportunity of his own next time around.
