Neither Mason Mount or Fikayo Tomori will be allowed to feature against parent club Chelsea in the EFL Cup this month, according to ESPN.
Both players have played starring roles at Derby County this season. They were both involved in the Rams’ against the odds victory against Manchester United late in September.
Having defeated the Red Devils and ensured their name was in the draw for the fourth round, manager Frank Lampard was set up with a reunion with his beloved Chelsea.
Despite the mutual respect and adoration that remains between Lampard and Chelsea, his former club are not prepared to do him any favours ahead of the game on October 30th.
ESPN report that, despite Chelsea being able to give Derby permission to use Mount and Tomori, the club are not prepared to do so. As a result, neither player will be allowed to feature.
This is a golden opportunity for two of our most promising young players to again experience against a top side. The fact that the club seemingly place no value on that is baffling.
