Assistant manager Gianfranco Zola will NOT be on the bench once again for Chelsea tonight having been re-admitted to hospital.
Zola was not present on the Chelsea bench during our 2-0 loss to Manchester United on Monday night. It’s unclear to what extent he is able to develop Maurizio Sarri’s ideas, but something was missing in the dugout as we crashed out of the FA Cup.
As Sky Sports report, Zola was expected to be back for the Malmo game, but was re-admitted to hospital following complications in the gallstone surgery that he underwent. Chelsea appear in no rush to bring him back, which is good to hear.
Zola’s ongoing health problems could rule him out of the race to become caretaker Chelsea manager in the event that Sarri is sacked. Though, that ought to be the last thing on his mind right now. He needs to focus on getting better and getting back in training.
