Chelsea fans have rejoiced this evening as manager Maurizio Sarri named four academy players in the matchday squad to face MOL Vidi in Hungary.
Bridging the gap between the academy and the first-team has been a tough task since Roman Abramovich’s millions flooded the club.
Many managers have tried and failed, with others not trying at all, and Sarri is the latest to have a crack at becoming the first to have some success.
The Italian has been cautious to include our youngsters in games of any importance, but he has used the Europa League as an opportunity to give them a run out.
Sarri has done so again tonight, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Andreas Christensen and Ethan Ampadu included in the starting eleven, with George McEachran and Jamie Cumming on the bench.
Chelsea fans are loving it. Even if this is a dead rubber fixture, Sarri’s willingness to use our younger players is refreshing.
Here’s how some passionate Blues took to Twitter to share their delight.
