The father of Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been accused of leaking the Belgium national side’s team news by former manager Marc Wilmots.
Courtois’ long-term future as a Chelsea player is in doubt. He has just 18-months remaining on his contract with the Blues, and speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid refuse to go away.
Not only is his situation at Stamford Bridge becoming ever more precarious, but Courtois could soon land himself in trouble with his country if his father’s misbehaviour continues.
As French publication L’Equipe report, former Belgium boss Wilmots has publicly claimed that Courtois’ father, Thierry Courtois, is responsible for leaks of the national side’s team news.
Wilmots is quoted by L’Equipe claiming:
“I just have a problem when I make my theory at 18h and at 18h15 it is on all networks. It means that a player has sold the selection. And that’s serious. It came back to me from several French journalists that Papa Courtois was doing it. It means that you do not respect your homeland.”
Courtois’ father does find it hard to keep his mouth shut, he appears to have passed that trait onto his son. It remains to be seen if there’ll be any fallout from this situation.
