Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero has been discussing the Blues’ FA Cup semi-final against Southampton with the club’s official website.
Caballero was an obviously good signing when we drafted him in during the summer window to replace the outgoing Asmir Begovic. Especially on a free transfer, he’s proven to be one of our shrewdest signings of the season.
At times there has been suggestions that Caballero has what it takes to overthrow Thibaut Courtois and take the starting spot for himself. However, manager Antonio Conte has opted to persevere with the Belgian through what has been a difficult season for him.
Caballero is, however, our cup keeper. He will likely be starting against Southampton on Sunday afternoon, and he knows exactly what winning this trophy would mean to everyone involved with the club.
The 36-year-old is quoted by the official Chelsea website revealing that he feels himself and his teammates have an obligation to win the trophy due to the successes of their predecessors:
“Every time I walk around Cobham I see a lot of pictures of the team winning trophies, so for this we have the obligation and ambition to go for it.”
“To finish the season playing a final and winning a trophy means we can finish well. The most important is to win again and put the name of our club on top again.”
Well said, Willy!
