Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso has confirmed that he is on the verge of signing a contract extension with the Blues.
Alonso polarises opinion among the Chelsea faithful due to his often suspect defending, but there’s not a single fan out there who could deny his effectiveness going forward.
Perhaps only Real Madrid’s Marcelo is ahead of Alonso in terms of the best players in his position on the planet right now. The Spaniard will be hoping to dethrone his left-back counterpart, and it looks as though he’ll be making that effort at Chelsea.
Alonso is quoted by The Sun confirming that he is in ‘advanced’ talks over penning an extension to his Chelsea contract:
“I am very comfortable and happy at Chelsea, and the club must be the same with me.”
“Even though there are two years left on my current deal, they have offered me an extension. We are discussing it and talks are very advanced.”
“If everything goes well, I think I will sign before the end of the month. In the coming days.”
As The Sun‘s report notes, he’s been linked with Real Madrid, not that they are in any sort of need of a left-back. His commitment to the cause at Stamford Bridge is great news. Let’s hope Eden Hazard follows suit…
