Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has revealed his ambitions for next season, and they go far beyond the Premier League title triumph this campaign, report the Daily Star.
Courtois had a season to forget last time around, with a serious knee injury interrupting what was a disappointing season on an individual level. However, he has been back to his best this term, and is the favourite to win the Premier League golden boot.
Chelsea are back in the Champions League, having been without it for the first time in the Roman Abramovich era this season – and Courtois believes the Blues are not just there to make up the numbers.
The Daily Star quote Courtois, who reveals it’s a personal ambition of his to become a European champion:
“Obviously next year there is a new goal with the Champions League coming for us. It’s been a few years since Chelsea have won it and I missed out on one in the last minute. A lot of players are hungry to win that as well.”
Courtois came close in 2014, but his Atletico Madrid side were beaten 4-1 in the final by arch-rivals Real Madrid. Perhaps next year could be his, and Chelsea’s, year.
