Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola will reportedly fly into London on Wednesday ahead of becoming part of Maurizio Sarri’s back-room staff.
Sarri’s proposed move to Stamford Bridge appears to be nearing completion. Antonio Conte will be cut loose, with compatriot Sarri set to lead Chelsea into the 2018/19 campaign.
The prospect of Sarri taking the reins in SW6 is an exciting one as it is, without the possibility of a club legend coming with him.
Zola, though, does look to be set to come home. The London Evening Standard report that the Italian will fly into London on Wednesday for talks over re-joining Chelsea.
The Blues legend knows the club like the back of his hand and will be able to help Sarri settle into life at Cobham.
Zola also has managerial experience of his own (with mixed success). His contributions will likely be welcomed by Sarri if the pair do team-up at Chelsea.
