David Luiz missed Chelsea training ahead of our clash with Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
Following the previous round of fixtures, the Premier League champions find themselves in a strong position to progress to the next round as group winners. A win over Atletico, who knocked us out in the semi-finals during the 2013/14 campaign, would seal our progression to the knockout-stages.
One man who has found himself relegated to the substitutes bench in recent weeks is David Luiz. The Brazilian has lost his starting spot to academy product Andreas Christensen, and this fixture could have provided Luiz wit some much-craved game-time.
However, it does not look as though he will be available for selection against Atleti.
According to the Daily Mail, the first-team squad trained without Luiz in their Monday session before our clash with the La Liga heavyweights. The report claims that Luiz is suffering from a knee injury and will subsequently miss out on the game against Diego Simeone’s men.
Only time will tell when Luiz will be back available for selection. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait too long to see him back in action.
