How much would Eden Hazard be worth in the current market? Now that’s a good question.
Let’s start with the most expensive transfer of all-time, Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain. The Guardian reported that it was worth an eye-watering €222M. The Brazilian has proven he can perform on the international stage, as well as starring in a Champions League final with Barcelona.
What about Kylian Mbappe? As per the BBC, the French prodigy’s summer move, also to Ligue 1 heavyweights PSG, will setback the club’s Qatari owners as much as £166M, or €180M. He has just one full season as a professional footballer under his belt.
How does Hazard compare? Well, prior to his move to the Parc des Princes, Neymar had found the back of the net 68 times in Europe’s top five leagues. At the time of writing, Hazard has bagged 93.
Neymar has won eight pieces of silverware during his time in Europe. Hazard, on the other hand, has won just six. Both have two league titles under their belts, but Neymar does boast a Champions League crown. It’s too close to call, so let’s see what Eden thinks.
The Daily Mail asked Hazard a straightforward question – if Neymar is worth €222M, what’s YOUR market value? His answer will make you crack a smile.
“€1billion!… Hahaha (laughs) – no I am just kidding. No not one billion. Neymar is a top player, he is Brazilian. I haven’t got an answer for that one.”
He may be joking, but if anyone comes knocking in the summer of 2018, we ought to demand at least double that!
