N’Golo Kante has suggested during an interview with Goal that Chelsea will not miss Nemanja Matic thanks to the arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko in the summer transfer window.
Matic left Chelsea in one of the most controversial transfers of the summer, reuniting with former boss Jose Mourinho at Manchester United. However, as Goal report, the Blues banked £40M through the sale of the Serbian, meaning that the deal was very much in the best interests of all parties.
His boots will undoubtedly be difficult to fill at Stamford Bridge. After all, Matic was influential in two title triumphs during his time in West London. However, Kante believes that Chelsea have found a more than adequate replacement in the shape of Bakayoko.
Kante is quoted by Goal acknowledging the void left by the departure of Matic, but insisting that the Blues can be successful with him playing alongside compatriot Bakayoko:
“We spent a good season together. He left now, he plays for United but Bakayoko has come and I think he’s a good player, and that we can do very well with him. Some players joined the club but it is like that in every club.”
Early signs suggest that Bakayoko was an extremely shrewd acquisition both for the present and the future. Let’s hope that he continues to develop alongside Kante at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield.
