It may have seemed like a good move for all parties at the time but the sale of Mohamed Salah to Roma in 2016 has immensely back-fired for Chelsea.
The winger rose to fame for the Serie A club but his £34m move to rivals Liverpool, reported by BBC Sport, has truly launched Salah’s profile in being one of the best players in the world this season.
The stats certainly don’t lie with the hype the Egyptian has received. Salah is the Premier League’s top scorer with 29 goals, that’s one greater than the combined tally of regular Blues attacking trio Alvaro Morata, Eden Hazard and Willian.
He’s well on his way to smashing the Premier League record for number of goals in a 38-game season, which currently stands at 31.
He’ll have a chance to add to close in on that record (if he hasn’t broken it already) against his former employers as Liverpool visit Stamford Bridge on May 5th. The fixture could prove to be decisive in the race for top four.
Chelsea vs. Liverpool betting odds will be fancying Jurgen Klopp’s side to nick three-points away from home, and who could blame them with the form we’ve been in recently?
Whilst there has been plenty of chopping and changing in Antonio Conte’s team selection, especially upfront, Salah’s relentlessness in front of goal has dented our chances of participating in next season. Liverpool are currently third in the top-flight, 10 points ahead of fifth-placed Chelsea.
