Maurizio Sarri

Maurizio Sarri has revealed his belief that Chelsea winger Eden Hazard is capable of scoring 40 goals in a single season, report talkSPORT.

Hazard was often forced to play with the handbrake on under the guidance of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte. Though both managers were incredibly successful at Chelsea, their football was undeniably negative.

Maurizio Sarri’s possession based style of play looks to be bringing the best out of our Belgian wizard. Though it’s very much early days in Sarri’s reign, Hazard looks to be both more involved in the final third and more incisive in front of goal.

Hazard currently leads the Premier League scoring table, having found the back of the net five times already this term. Sarri believes that this is just the beginning, and Hazard can in fact score 40.

talkSPORT quote Sarri, who says:

“Yesterday I said to him that for me you can score 40 goals. But you have to spend less energy far from goal and you have to play in the last 25 metres of the field.”

“I think that he can spend less energy than he does now at 50 to 60 metres from the opposite goal. In these actions I think he spends a lot of energy, and he can have more energy in the last 25 metres.”

Hazard’s goal scoring consistency for club and country at the start of this season is something that he hasn’t produced before during his time with Chelsea. The early signs are overwhelmingly positive.

We are trying our best not to get ahead of ourselves, but when you have a talent like Hazard on your hands, it’s hard not to. Sarri appears to be having the same problem!
