Chelsea fans’ desired striker goes on strike after losing captain’s armband

The situation surrounding Mauro Icardi at Inter Milan appears to be coming to a head. Chelsea will never get a better chance to sign him.

Icardi is one of those players who Chelsea fans have longed for over the past several years, yet we have never believed that we had a genuine shot at signing him. He loves Inter, and he’s adored at the San Siro. Why would he leave?

The Argentine may now finally have been given a reason to seek a move elsewhere. It was announced earlier in the week that Inter had made the decision to strip him of the armband and instead appoint Samir Handanovic as club captain.

We were anxiously waiting to see how Icardi would respond to losing the captaincy, knowing that any discontent could signal a potential transfer this summer. We have now been given our answer, and from our perspective, it’s great news.

The Daily Mail report that Icardi has refused to travel with his Inter teammates to face Rapid Vienna in the Europa League in wake of Inter’s decision. Chelsea will never have a better chance to sign him than we do now. Get on the phone, Marina!
