The July 1st theory, Chelsea fans across social media are fast becoming obsessed with it.

It’s the day that the transfer window officially opens, and the day that Nike officially become our kit manufacturer. Are they two separate things that just coincidentally coincide on the same day, or are Chelsea set to announce themselves as part of the Nike family with a BANG?

Alex Sandro, Romelu Lukaku, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Virgil Van Dijk and Willy Caballero – what do they all have in common? Well, unless you’ve been living under a rock, they have all been heavily linked with Chelsea in recent weeks – but that’s not the similarity between the five of them, they are all also sponsored by Nike.

It may, perhaps, be another coincidence, but is there a reason why we haven’t announced the signing of Caballero yet? There is no third-party to deal with, he is a free agent.

Is there a reason we haven’t announced Lukaku yet? He confirmed weeks ago that he had found an agreement with his future employers, and gave a cheeky wink when asked if it was Chelsea.

Is there a reason why interest in Bakayoko, Sandro and Van Dijk appears to have intensified as we approach July 1st, with the Chelsea board having spent the majority of June twiddling their thumbs?

Maybe, just maybe, that reason is that we’re preparing to light up the footballing world on the first of next month. Let’s wait and see.
