The Mirror report that Chelsea have rejected advances from Bayern Munich for youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi.
It was claimed by the Guardian back in January that Hudson-Odoi had requested a transfer away from Chelsea, with Bayern sniffing around the Englishman.
Commendably, Chelsea put their foot down, refusing to grant Hudson-Odoi an exit from Stamford Bridge, leaving Bayern frustrated.
Hudson-Odoi’s contract has just one year left to run, which ought to give Bayern a degree of encouragement if they are to continue their pursuit of him.
Chelsea face the possibility of losing one of the world’s hottest prospects on a free transfer if they are unable to tie him down to a new deal.
Here’s three guarantees that we ought to give Callum in hope of convincing him to commit his future to Chelsea football club.
Perhaps the most obvious, but Chelsea have to offer Hudson-Odoi a guaranteed starting spot from this season forward. For no reason other than he deserves it.
Hudson-Odoi was continually overlooked by Maurizio Sarri last term. He realised his worth, but perhaps too late to save his relationship with the Chelsea fans.
Frank Lampard, should he arrive, cannot afford to make the same mistake. Hudson-Odoi is the best left-winger on our books, he’s not just a prospect anymore.
Ultimately, Hudson-Odoi would only ever leave his boyhood club if he believed that he had a better chance of playing more elsewhere. Let’s make sure he doesn’t.
The number 10
With Eden Hazard departing for his dream Real Madrid move, it’s time to make yet another dream become reality this summer.
Coming up through the Chelsea academy, Hudson-Odoi will have dreamed to don the number 10 shirt while playing out on the Stamford Bridge turf.
We have been given an opportunity this summer to help him achieve that. Let’s give him the number 10, there’s nobody else more deserving.
We could give it to Willian, only for him to leave next summer, or Christian Pulisic, but what message does it send if he gets it over one of our own?
There’s no argument from our perspective. It has to be Hudson-Odoi.
A sizeable pay cheque
As much as it pains us to say it, the mind of any footballer in the modern game has the potential to be altered by how many zeros are on the end of an offer.
Chelsea are a club with such immense financial power that we can offer any amount to any player we deem worth the price. Hudson-Odoi is absolutely worth it.
He has the potential to be our Kylian Mbappe, perhaps not matching the Frenchman’s extraordinary output in Ligue 1, but comparable in terms of influence.
We ought to give Hudson-Odoi an offer that he finds impossible to refuse. An offer incomparable to the earnings of any other 18-year-old in the world.
That would (hopefully) serve as the cherry on top of the cake.
What do YOU think, Blues?
