Now this is interesting…
Chelsea need a new left-back, this is not news to anyone who watches us on a regular basis. Marcos Alonso is a goal-threat, but there are blatant defensive frailties that are often exposed against better sides, and we dread to think what’ll happen when we face Barcelona in the Champions League.
Not to mention that our current back-up left-wing-back is Kenedy. A winger by trade, who really could do with a loan spell to a Premier League side to continue his development.
The Sun believe that Juventus’ Alex Sandro is on our transfer radar, but it remains to be seen how realistic it would be to sign him mid-way through the season. Not to mention that he would be cup-tied in the Champions League and thus unavailable for selection.
Could the Blues look to re-sign academy product Ryan Bertrand? He has developed into one of the best full-backs in the country since his move to Southampton.
There is no concrete suggestion that we’re the remotest bit interested, but we ought to be, and former Saints skipper Jose Fonte has strongly insinuated that Bertrand could be on the move sooner rather than later.
As Virgil Van Dijk announced his move to Liverpool on Instagram, Fonte posted the below comment, which seems to be attempting to encourage Bertrand to jump ship. Intriguing!
